Rumors Abound of the Next-Gen Chevy Cruze Hatchback Coming to the US

Word is getting around that the upcoming Chevy Cruze hatchback, previously available only to overseas markets, will be making its debut in the United States. The current model, the 2015 Chevrolet Cruze, is offered in the States, but only in its sedan form. Europeans, on the other hand, have a hatchback version because of a strategy implemented in 2013. General Motors is now looking to rectify this omission, and will presumably be offering a Cruze hatchback to American buyers.

The Next-Generation Chevy Cruze Hatchback

This rumor has its root with¬†Automotive News,¬†who reported that GM showed off a hatchback Cruze to dealers who were attending the GM national meeting in Las Vegas. The new Cruze sedan will also be shown to the media later in the week, but it’s unclear as to whether or not it will be next to a hatchback model yet. It’s an interesting situation to be sure, with Chevrolet’s competitors already offering hatchback models of their compact sedans. Many of the major brands offer a competitive hatchback, so it makes sense that the Cruze, which already exists in hatch form in other markets, could make a debut in the U.S.

The next-gen Chevy Cruz hatchback is expected to get a few new powertrains for the model year. One of these is rumored to be a 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, and there’s talk of a plug-in hybrid.

What to Expect From the 2016 Chevy Cruze Hatchback

Not many details are out yet, and the U.S. release is supposed to be several months after the sedan hits the streets. What we do know is that Chevrolet is billing the 2016 Cruze as both lighter and longer than it’s predecessor, which is quite impressive. It’s not often that a maker declares their new cars to be bigger but lighter, so it’ll be interesting to see when it hits U.S. shores.

We’re interested to see exactly what this Cruze hatchback will look like and how it will fare in the U.S. markets, who seem to be ready for an influx of efficient hatchbacks. To stay posted on this and other upcoming vehicles, contact us online today and check out our regular updates.
